Study John 19

In this chapter the Apostle John carefully recounts the story of Jesus’ execution. John highlights some of the most important details of this event so that we might better understand the true significance of Jesus’ death on the cross.

  1. How did the soldiers humiliate Jesus? (19:2-5)

Chapter 19 Answers

  1. Crown of thorns, purple robe, mocking words and striking
  2. He claimed to be the son of God
  3. The one from above = God
  4. Because Caesar had all “political” power and could “remove” Pilate from his position
  5. Caesar
  6. So that one can see that what is happening is according to God’s plan
  7. It demonstrates his heart of compassion
  8. He gave up his spirit  It was not taken from him
  9. He in no way deserved crucifixion or any other death, he was innocent
  10. Because he wanted to obey the Father, and to give his life up as a sacrifice for humanity
